A taster session for complete beginners. No prior experience needed, no certification awarded. You complete a short briefing, practise basic skills in shallow water with an instructor, then do one or two guided dives on a real reef. The best way to decide if you want to commit to a full course.
A good option for travellers with limited time. Shorter than the full Open Water course, it certifies you to dive under direct supervision of a professional to 12 m. Can be upgraded to full Open Water later. Suits guests on a short 3–4 night stay who want a real certification but cannot commit to 3–4 full course days.
The starting point for every certified diver. Covers dive theory, confined water skills, and four open water dives (approximately 10 hours in the water). On completion you are certified to dive independently with a buddy to 18 m anywhere in the world. Available through PADI and SSI centres across the Maldives. If you have completed the theory and confined water sessions at home but want to do your four qualifying open water dives in the Maldives, a referral lets you do exactly that. A popular option for travellers who want to use their Maldives trip entirely for real diving, not classroom sessions.
Five adventure dives across different specialties including deep diving (to 30 m) and underwater navigation, plus three others of your choice. Extends your certification depth from 18 m to 30 m and broadens your experience significantly. Can be combined directly after Open Water in a single trip.

The first professional level in diving. Divemasters assist instructors, lead certified divers, and can work at dive centres worldwide. Requires Rescue Diver, 40+ logged dives, and a full medical. Breath-hold diving without scuba equipment. PADI Freediver and AIDA courses are available at selected centres in the Maldives. Teaches breath control, equalisation techniques, and safe freediving practices. Increasingly popular for underwater photographers and surfers. The certification you receive from either is valid worldwide and accepted by dive operators globally. For most holiday divers, the practical difference is minimal. What matters more is the quality of the instructor, group size, equipment condition, safety culture, and how well the course schedule fits your trip dates.

Swimming ability is required. You do not need to be an athlete, but you must be comfortable in open water and able to swim a short distance without assistance. If you are not confident in the water, discuss this with the dive centre before booking; they can advise on suitable start points.
