Gulhi Guesthouses and Hotels: Where to Stay on Gulhi

Every guesthouse on Gulhi sits minutes from the bikini beach. Compare them by price, sea view, pool, family rooms and on-site dining, then tell us your dates.

Gulhi has a small choice of guesthouses and beach hotels, all within a few minutes’ walk of the bikini beach, with rooms from around USD 65 to USD 100 a night including breakfast. Because the island is tiny, location barely changes between properties, so the real differences are price, room style, and whether a place has a pool, sea-view rooms, family rooms, or its own restaurant. Use the filters below to narrow your options, or message us and we will match one to your trip.

Best hotels and guesthouses in Gulhi

Gulhi’s guesthouses and small beach hotels range from simple budget rooms around USD 65 a night to a 4-star beach hotel with a pool and spa near USD 100, all breakfast-included and all a short walk from the bikini beach. The best one for you is less about location, which barely changes on such a small island, and more about budget and what you want from the stay. A quick guide:

Gulhi hotels vs resorts

People often search for “Gulhi resorts,” so it is worth being clear: Gulhi is an inhabited local island with guesthouses and small beach hotels, not private island resorts. There are no overwater villas, no all-inclusive resort packages, and no resort bars on the island, alcohol is not sold publicly here. What you get instead is a real Maldivian island at a fraction of resort prices, with the same turquoise water and white sand.

If resort facilities matter to you, the usual approach is to pair a Gulhi stay with a nearby resort for a night or two, or take a resort day visit, a day pass for a pool, a beach, lunch, and a drink, then return to your guesthouse. The “premium” option on Gulhi itself is the 4-star beach hotel with a pool and spa, which is the closest thing to resort comfort on the island.

Best area to stay in Gulhi

On most islands this question matters; on Gulhi it barely does, because the whole island is about ten minutes’ walk end to end. Every guesthouse is close to the bikini beach, and nothing is far from the harbour where boats arrive. So you are not really choosing a neighbourhood, you are choosing a property.

That said, a few sit right on the beachfront, which is worth asking about if you want to step straight onto the sand or wake up to a sea view. The quieter end of the island, away from the harbour, suits anyone wanting calm, while being near the centre puts you closest to the cafes and shops. For most visitors, the small size is the point: wherever you stay, the beach is minutes away.

Booking direct or through a local agency vs an OTA

You can book most Gulhi guesthouses on a big online travel site, and that is fine for a simple room-only stay. But for a local-island trip there is a real advantage to booking through a Maldives agency like us instead. An OTA sells you a room; it does not arrange your airport speedboat, time it to your flight, add excursions, or help if a flight is delayed.

Booking through us means the guesthouse, the transfer, and any snorkelling or sandbank trips come together in one quote, with someone on the ground if plans change. We can also match the right property to how you travel, a quiet small guesthouse for a couple, a family-room place for children, the pool hotel for a bit of comfort, which a list of rooms and prices cannot do on its own.

What to check before you book

Gulhi guesthouses are simple and good value, but a few things are worth confirming before you pay, since they are not always obvious from a listing:

Distance to the bikini beach

All are walkable, but “beachfront” and “a few minutes’ walk” are not the same. If you want to step straight onto the sand, ask.

What the rate includes

Most include breakfast. Confirm whether taxes (17% TGST, service charge, and Green Tax of USD 6 per person per night) are already in the price or added on, and whether airport transfers are arranged for you.

Transfers

Ask whether the property arranges the speedboat from the airport (about 25 to 30 minutes) and times it to your flight. See our Male to Gulhi transfer guide.

Room and payment details

Check room size and whether it has air-conditioning, the cancellation policy, and whether the property takes cards or cash only, as ATMs on Gulhi can be unreliable.

Planning the rest of your Gulhi trip

Once you have a guesthouse in mind, the rest of the cluster covers the trip: the Gulhi island guide for the overview and Gulhi vs Maafushi, the bikini beach guide, things to do, the airport transfer, and combining Gulhi with Maafushi.

Not sure which to pick?

Gulhi guesthouse FAQs

How much does a Gulhi guesthouse cost?

Rooms run from around USD 65 to USD 100 a night including breakfast, depending on the property and season. On top of the room rate, expect 17% TGST, a service charge, and Green Tax of USD 6 per person per night. We confirm exact figures when you enquire.

Are there resorts on Gulhi?

No. Gulhi is a local island with guesthouses and small beach hotels, not private island resorts. For resort facilities you would book a nearby resort separately or take a resort day trip.

Which Gulhi guesthouses are near the bikini beach?

All of them. Gulhi is small enough that every guesthouse is a few minutes’ walk from the bikini beach. Some sit right on the beachfront, so if that matters, ask about the exact distance before booking.

Do Gulhi guesthouses include breakfast?

Most include breakfast in the room rate. Other meals are usually available at the guesthouse or nearby cafes. Confirm the meal plan when you book.

Is there a Gulhi guesthouse with a pool?

Yes, the premium beach hotel on the island has a pool and spa. Most Gulhi properties are simpler guesthouses without a pool, since the shallow lagoon and bikini beach are the main swimming spots.

Can you book a Gulhi guesthouse with airport transfer?

Yes. Most properties can arrange the speedboat from the airport, about 25 to 30 minutes, timed to your flight. We can arrange the guesthouse and transfer together so it is all set before you land.
