The 7-night format is a different product from the 5-night package, not just a longer version of it. The extra two nights change what you can do with the trip in three meaningful ways, and each is a reason a particular kind of traveller settles on this length rather than the volume default.
The first is fishing day count. A 5-night package gives you three full fishing days plus a buffer day for weather. A 7-night package gives you four to six full fishing days, depending on how aggressively you want to fish across the trip. The extra fishing days matter most when you are pushing multiple techniques (popping, jigging, fly fishing, trolling, deep dropping) where each needs its own day to settle in. Three fishing days lets you commit to one or two techniques and do them well; five fishing days lets you do four or more without rushing any of them.
The second is geographic range. A 5-night package works best when based in one atoll, because moving between atolls inside 5 nights consumes most of one fishing day. A 7-night package opens up the two-atoll itinerary: three days in one atoll, a transfer day with a domestic flight, and three days in a second atoll, often pairing the central atolls with one of the deeper southern atolls. Anglers come back from these trips with two different fishing experiences inside one booking, which is the most-requested 7-night configuration we run.
The third is travel sense from longer-haul origins. Travellers flying from London, Frankfurt, Madrid, New York, Sydney or Singapore lose roughly two days in transit each way. A 5-night trip ends up being more travel time than water time, which is hard to justify. A 7-night trip swings the ratio back: five travel days, five fishing days, and the international flight time amortises across a meaningful fishing total. For travellers from Europe, the UK, North America and Australia, the 7-night format is usually where the trip starts to make sense rather than where it ends.
The three day-by-day plans below show what a 7-night fishing trip actually looks like across three different configurations: a single-atoll deep-dive in the southern atolls, a two-atoll itinerary combining central and southern water, and a 7-night liveaboard. Each plan is fully customisable; these are starting points for your quote, not fixed products.
Three configurations with different commercial logic. Itinerary A goes deep on one productive atoll and is the most-booked 7-night format for anglers chasing a specific species mix. Itinerary B is the longer-trip differentiator that 5 nights cannot accommodate, and the configuration most travellers from Europe and Australia request. Itinerary C suits anglers who do not want to lose any day to land logistics and treat the yacht as both accommodation and fishing base. For the broader format treatment of charters themselves, see our Maldives fishing charters page.

The two-atoll itinerary is the configuration that genuinely unlocks at 7 nights and is impossible at 5. The 5-night format gives you three productive fishing days, and any atoll transfer inside that frame consumes roughly half a day. Anglers who book 5 nights and then ask to add a second atoll typically end up disappointed because the transfer day eats too much water time. The 7-night format absorbs the transfer with two and a half fishing days on either side, which makes the second atoll worth visiting.
The two-atoll itinerary is the most-booked 7-night configuration we run for first-time visitors from Europe, the UK and Australia. Returning anglers who already know the water tend to default to the single-atoll deep-dive (Itinerary A above) because they know exactly what they want to fish for; first-time visitors with the longer travel commitment usually prefer the variety of two atolls.
The atoll pairing matters as much as the choice of which atoll to fish. The five combinations below cover the bulk of our 7-night two-atoll bookings; the single-atoll deep-dive configurations are covered on the individual atoll pages. For broader atoll geography see our Maldives sport fishing overview.
The classic pairing. Three days of mixed-technique fishing in North Malé to settle in, then a 75-minute domestic flight to Kooddoo for three days on the deepest channels in the country. Suits committed anglers chasing dogtooth tuna and GT on the southern leg after warming up on the lighter water of the north. See our Huvadhoo Atoll sport fishing page.
A pairing for anglers who want offshore variety in Ari and GT-popping focus in Laamu. The Ari leg can include a non-fishing day with whale shark snorkelling in the southern stretch, which works particularly well for trips with a non-fishing partner. See our Laamu Atoll sport fishing page and our forthcoming Ari Atoll sport fishing page.
The central-atolls deep-dive for anglers who do not want a long domestic flight leg. Both atolls reachable by speedboat from a base in South Malé. Less travel commitment than a north-south pairing, more variety than a single-atoll trip. Strong for trolling, reef fishing and channel-edge work.
The deep-south pairing for anglers who want maximum atoll character. Both atolls require a domestic flight from Malé. Suits returning anglers who already know they prefer the southern water and want to extend the trip with the deep south. See our forthcoming Addu Atoll sport fishing page.
The shortest-transfer two-atoll option. Both atolls reachable by speedboat or short flight, so the transfer day is faster than the southern-atoll pairings. Suits travellers who want the two-atoll variety without the deep-south travel commitment, including families and partner-along trips.
The non-pairing option. Five fishing days in one atoll lets the captain push every technique and read the conditions across a full week. The format suits anglers who already know the atoll, or who want a particular species mix that only one atoll delivers consistently in their travel month.
Tell us your travel dates and your target species. We will recommend an atoll combination, check availability, and quote it.
Six accommodation tiers genuinely work at 7 nights, one more than the 5-night format. The extra tier is the two-atoll mixed accommodation configuration where you stay in different accommodation styles across the trip. The tiers below cover what we book.
Modest local-island guesthouse, central atolls, 4 to 5 fishing days, breakfast and dinner included. The lowest cost-per-fishing-day option in the 7-night range.
Sea-view rooms, private terrace, sometimes a pool, full meal plan, 4 to 5 fishing days. The most-booked configuration for committed anglers.
Guesthouse in atoll one plus guesthouse in atoll two, 5 fishing days split across both. Includes the domestic flight transfer. The two-atoll itinerary product.
Huvadhoo, Laamu or Addu, newer purpose-built guesthouse, 5 fishing days, full board, domestic flights both ways. The longer-stay southern atolls product.
5-star resort, 3 to 4 fishing days arranged through us rather than the resort activity desk, partner-friendly configuration with rest days at the resort.
Cabin on a fishing liveaboard, 6 fishing days from the tender, all meals on board, no land transfers. See our forthcoming liveaboard fishing packages page.
The grid below sets out indicative 2026 pricing across the six accommodation tiers. These are planning numbers, not promises; the real quote depends on your dates, your group size, the atoll combination you choose, and the number of fishing days included. We send a fixed quote with all taxes and fees broken out before any deposit.
Single atoll, 4 to 5 fishing days, breakfast and dinner.
Single atoll, sea-view, full board, 4 to 5 fishing days.
Two atolls, 5 fishing days, domestic flight included.
Huvadhoo / Laamu / Addu, 5 fishing days, premium guesthouse.
5-star resort, 3 to 4 fishing days, partner-friendly.
Shared cabin, 6 fishing days, all meals on board.
Single occupancy of a twin room or single cabin.
Adding a sixth or seventh fishing day where the itinerary allows.
Larger walkaround vessel with full sport fishing kit.
Inclusions vary between configurations but the table below sets out the standard pattern. The two-atoll and southern atoll tiers add domestic flights as a standard line item; the liveaboard tier replaces accommodation transfers with cabin and onboard meals. Anything marked variable is worth confirming before booking; we break out every line in our quotes.

The decision between 5 nights and 7 nights is the most common call we walk travellers through on package enquiries. The table below sets out where each length lands.
| Factor | 5 nights wins when | 7 nights wins when |
|---|---|---|
| Origin and flight time | Gulf, India, Sri Lanka, Singapore (3 to 5 hour flight) | UK, Europe, North America, Australia (8 to 16 hour flight or connection) |
| Time available | Standard week off work | 10 to 14 day window, public holiday extension |
| Trip objective | Three productive fishing days, one atoll, one or two techniques | Four or more fishing days, two atolls, multiple techniques |
| Geographic ambition | Stay in one atoll, fish what is in range | Cover two atolls, or push to the deep south |
| Weather risk tolerance | One buffer day held for weather | Two buffer days held, lower risk of losing the trip |
| Cost ceiling | USD 1,400 to 4,500 per person twin share | USD 1,900 to 6,500 per person twin share |
| Familiarity | First or second visit, want to settle into the water | Travelling specifically to fish, often returning visitor |
If four or more of the factors in the right-hand column apply to you, the 7-night format is the right choice. If they do not, the 5-night package is usually the better fit. For short-format trips see our 3-night fishing package page.
The 7-night format works hardest from longer-haul origin markets where the international flight time consumes two travel days each way. The four origin regions below cover the bulk of our 7-night bookings and the flight logistics that make the format work.
Direct flights from London Heathrow, Manchester, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan and Madrid to Malé run 9 to 11 hours. Most carriers operate overnight services arriving in Malé in the late morning. The 7-night format absorbs the long-haul transit comfortably: one day of inbound travel including the overnight flight, five to six fishing days, and one day of outbound travel. Strong from Heathrow and Frankfurt; connections through Doha, Dubai and Istanbul also work.
Connecting flights from New York, Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles and Vancouver to Malé typically route through Doha, Dubai, London or Frankfurt and run 18 to 24 hours including transit. The 7-night format is usually the shortest length that justifies the journey from North America, and many travellers extend to 10 to 14 nights or combine the Maldives with a Sri Lanka stopover. We can build the broader regional itinerary on request.
Connecting flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland to Malé typically route through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Dubai and run 14 to 18 hours. The 7-night format suits Australian travellers well, and the southern Maldives southern atolls (Huvadhoo, Laamu, Addu) appeal particularly to anglers from Cairns and Queensland who already know warm-water sport fishing.
Direct flights from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Muscat to Malé run 4 to 4.5 hours; this origin market dominates our 5-night bookings. For 7-night trips from the Gulf we typically see travellers using a public holiday extension (Eid, Ramadan break, UAE National Day) to extend a standard fishing week, or anglers who specifically want the two-atoll itinerary.
From the Gulf and India, the 5-night package remains the volume default and the better commercial fit unless you specifically want a longer trip or a two-atoll itinerary.
Our process is plain. We do not run a listing site and we do not show you a grid of pre-built packages to pick from. The sequence is the same for every 7-night fishing trip we book, with one extra step that 5-night and 3-night trips do not need.
Step 1: you tell us what you want. Dates, group size, target species, origin city, accommodation tier preference, and whether you want a single-atoll deep-dive, a two-atoll itinerary or a liveaboard. The trip builder collects this in a few minutes; WhatsApp works the same way.
Step 2: we sense-check the format against the origin. If you are flying from Mumbai or Dubai and asking for a 7-night trip, we ask whether you actually want the longer length or whether the 5-night format would serve you better; we lose bookings to honesty here sometimes, and gain trust over the long run. If you are flying from London, Sydney or New York, we confirm the format and proceed.
Step 3: we match accommodation, vessels and domestic flights. For two-atoll itineraries we book accommodation in both atolls, vessels with both captains briefed, and the domestic flight between them. For southern atoll deep-dives we book the domestic flights both ways. For liveaboards we confirm the yacht and the cabin grade.
Step 4: you get a fixed quote with the day-by-day plan. The quote breaks out accommodation (both atolls if applicable), the fishing days, fuel and gear, transfers including domestic flights, meals, and all taxes and fees. The day-by-day plan goes alongside.
Step 5: you book and travel. Deposit secures the dates, the boats and the domestic flights. Our Malé-based planner is on WhatsApp throughout your trip, including during atoll transfers, in case anything needs adjusting.
The 7-night format works particularly well for trips with a non-fishing partner because the extra days create room for both travellers to have a fuller trip. Around half of our 7-night bookings include a non-fishing companion, slightly higher than the 5-night ratio.
Two configurations work cleanly. The resort tier (Tier 5) is the obvious choice for couples where the non-fishing partner wants resort facilities, full meal plans and beach time while the angler fishes. The two-atoll itinerary (Tier 3) also works well: the second atoll often includes a non-fishing excursion built into one of the rest days, such as whale shark snorkelling in southern Ari Atoll or a sandbank trip in Laamu, which gives the non-fishing partner a distinct experience inside the trip rather than just down-time. We plan the non-fishing-day activities at the quote stage rather than leaving them to be sorted on arrival.
For broader Maldives planning beyond the fishing side of the trip see our Maldives vacation page, or the casual Maldives fishing experiences guide if the non-fishing partner wants to join one sunset or night trip.
Indicative 2026 pricing runs USD 1,900 to 6,500 per person on twin share, depending on the accommodation tier and configuration. Budget guesthouse packages start around USD 1,900, mid-tier guesthouse packages sit at USD 2,600 to 3,600, two-atoll itineraries run USD 3,500 to 4,800, premium southern atoll packages run USD 4,000 to 5,500, resort packages span USD 4,500 to 6,500, and liveaboards span USD 3,500 to 6,000. All ranges are exclusive of the Maldives Tourism Goods and Services Tax of 17% and the applicable Green Tax.
Four to six full fishing days, depending on the configuration. Single-atoll deep-dives typically run five full fishing days plus a rest day. Two-atoll itineraries run five fishing days plus one transfer day. Liveaboards run six fishing days inside the 7-night charter. Resort tiers run three to four fishing days with the remaining days at the resort for the partner-friendly configuration.
Three meaningful differences. First, fishing day count: 5 nights gives three full fishing days, 7 nights gives four to six. Second, geographic range: 5 nights works best in one atoll, 7 nights opens up the two-atoll itinerary. Third, travel sense: 5 nights works for travellers from the Gulf and India where flight time is short, 7 nights works for travellers from the UK, Europe, North America and Australia where the international flight eats two travel days. The 5-night package remains the volume default.
Yes; the two-atoll itinerary is the most-booked 7-night configuration for first-time visitors from longer-haul origins. The structure is typically three days in one atoll, a transfer day with a domestic flight, then three days in a second atoll. We coordinate both accommodation bookings, both vessels and the domestic flight as part of one quote. Common pairings include North Malé with Huvadhoo, Ari with Laamu, and South Malé with Vaavu or Meemu.
For single-atoll deep-dives, Huvadhoo and Laamu are the strongest because the longer length absorbs the domestic flight transfer and rewards anglers with the deepest channels in the country. For two-atoll itineraries, the classic pairings are North Malé with Huvadhoo, Ari with Laamu, and South Malé with Vaavu or Meemu. Central-atoll-only 7-night trips work but are less commonly booked because the 5-night format covers them well; 7 nights tends to want the southern atolls or a two-atoll variation.
Guesthouse (Tier 1 or 2) if you want the lowest cost-per-fishing-day and you already know which atoll you want to fish. Two-atoll itinerary (Tier 3) if you are a first-time visitor wanting variety and weather buffer across two productive areas. Premium southern atolls (Tier 4) if you are a returning angler with a specific species target. Resort (Tier 5) if a non-fishing partner is along. Liveaboard (Tier 6) if you do not want to lose any day to land logistics. Most committed anglers default to Tier 2, 3 or 4.
Yes; this is the format the long-haul origin markets typically book. Direct flights from London, Frankfurt, Paris and Madrid run 9 to 11 hours, usually overnight, so the trip absorbs the journey better at 7 nights than at 5. From North America the 7-night format is usually the shortest that justifies the 18 to 24 hour transit; many North American travellers extend further to 10 or 14 nights, often combined with a Sri Lanka stopover. We can build the broader regional itinerary on request.
Yes; around half of our 7-night bookings include a non-fishing companion. The resort tier (Tier 5) and the two-atoll itinerary (Tier 3) work particularly well for this configuration. We plan the non-fishing-day activities at the quote stage and add specific excursions (whale shark snorkelling in Ari, sandbank trips, spa days, dolphin cruises) into the rest days so the non-fishing partner has a distinct experience inside the trip.
The northeast monsoon from November to April brings calmer seas, better visibility and the strongest offshore fishing for sailfish, marlin, wahoo and yellowfin tuna. The southwest monsoon from May to October produces excellent GT popping conditions on the western reef faces. The 7-night format works in either monsoon because the two-day weather buffer absorbs most weather risk. For atoll-by-atoll seasonality see our forthcoming Maldives fishing season page.
Edible reef species and yellowfin tuna or wahoo can be filleted, vacuum-sealed and packed for travel home in a checked styrofoam cooler, subject to airline checked-baggage allowances and your destination country import rules. We arrange the cleaning, filleting and packing on request, typically from the final fishing day so the catch travels home as fresh as possible. Catch-and-release species (giant trevally, dogtooth tuna, marlin, sailfish) are not taken home.
Most components are bundled into one quote: accommodation, fishing days, transfers, domestic flights where the itinerary needs them, breakfast, dinner and lunch on the boat. Alcohol is not available on local-island guesthouses, and is plan-dependent at resorts and licensed liveaboards. Specialist popping and jigging lures, tips for the crew, and the Maldives Tourism Goods and Services Tax of 17% plus applicable Green Tax sit outside the standard package and are quoted separately.
Yes; every 7-night package we book is built around your specific request rather than a fixed product. You can adjust the number of fishing days, the accommodation tier, the atoll combination, the boat configuration for the fishing days, the meal plan, and the rest-day activities. The day-by-day plan in your quote shows exactly what you are booking and we re-quote when you ask for changes.
Send your dates, your origin city, your accommodation preference and your atoll thoughts. We will reply with a real quote, a day-by-day plan and a fixed all-in price.
