Five nights is the length most committed anglers settle on after weighing the alternatives, and the booking data across our fishing trips bears it out. A 3-night trip works for a long weekend visit from the Gulf or India, but it gives you only two productive fishing days and no buffer if one day blows out. A 7-night trip suits anglers who want to cover two atolls or fish three different techniques, and it costs proportionally more. The 5-night length lands at the productive middle: three full fishing days, one buffer day held for weather, and one rest or half-day for the body to recover between long days at sea.
The arithmetic works for travel from most origin markets as well. Five nights plus two travel days fits inside a standard week off work from London, Frankfurt, Dubai, Doha, Mumbai, Delhi and most other primary feeder cities for the Maldives. The international flight schedules favour overnight inbound on Day 0 and afternoon outbound on Day 6, which means you land rested, fish hard for three or four days, then leave on a sensible flight rather than a red-eye that ruins your last fishing morning.
The other reason 5 nights performs well: the Maldives weather window can shift inside any given week. The northeast monsoon from November to April is calmer overall, but the southwest monsoon from May to October is not a write-off; it just runs to a different rhythm. With three fishing days plus one buffer day inside a 5-night trip, the captain has enough flexibility to swap days around when the wind picks up. With only two fishing days inside a 3-night trip, one bad-weather day costs you fifty per cent of your fishing time.

Both end at the same place, a fully booked 5-night fishing trip with the boat, the accommodation, the transfers and the meals coordinated as one quote.
You already know where you want to stay, or you have a resort booking in hand. We add the fishing days, the transfers between your accommodation and the boat, and any necessary domestic flights. This works for travellers staying at a luxury resort who want serious fishing days, or for repeat visitors with a guesthouse they trust.

The pricing differs slightly between modes: Mode 3 is usually a few per cent cheaper at the same accommodation tier because we pre-negotiate guesthouse and boat rates across the trip rather than booking them piecemeal. Most travellers default to Mode 3 unless they have a specific resort in mind.
The Maldives is 871 kilometres long across 26 atolls, and not every atoll suits a 5-night fishing trip. Two factors narrow the field: domestic transfer time and the productive water for your target species in your travel month. The four atolls below cover the majority of our 5-night package bookings. Suits travellers who want minimal transfer time, mixed fishing techniques, and a half-day on the way in or out for sightseeing in Malé. Productive for yellowfin tuna, wahoo, GT popping along the channel edges, and reef species. The default for first-time visitors. Reached by 20-minute domestic flight to Maamigili plus a short speedboat transfer, or by direct speedboat. Suits anglers who want offshore variety, deeper water on the western reef edge, and a productive combination of trolling and popping. Reached by 75-minute domestic flight to Kooddoo. The largest atoll in the country and the deepest channels, dropping to 600 metres within a mile of some reef faces. Suits committed anglers who want the most consistent dogtooth tuna and GT fishing in the dry season, and who are willing to spend more on transfers and accommodation to reach it. The biggest single driver of total cost on a 5-night fishing package is where you sleep. The boat day rate moves USD 200 to 400 between configurations; the accommodation moves USD 800 to 4,000 across the same trip. The five tiers below cover the configurations we book most often.
Modest accommodation on a local island close to productive water, typically a 6 to 12 room family-run guesthouse with air-conditioned rooms, en-suite bathrooms, breakfast and dinner included, and a short walk to the harbour where the boat collects you. Suits anglers who want the budget weight to go into fishing days rather than the bed, and travellers comfortable with a working-island atmosphere rather than a resort feel. Indicative cost USD 1,400 to 1,900 per person on twin share for the full 5-night package.
Larger guesthouses or small boutique stays with sea-view rooms, private terraces, swimming pools in some cases, full meal plans and more developed restaurants. Most commonly used for travellers who want a step up from budget without paying resort rates. Indicative cost USD 2,000 to 2,800 per person on twin share.
The newer purpose-built guesthouses in Laamu, Huvadhoo and Addu, often with sea-view rooms and direct beach access, combined with the higher transfer cost of reaching the southern atolls. A 4-star resort stay with 2 to 3 dedicated fishing days arranged through us rather than the resort activity desk. This works well when a non-fishing partner is on the trip and wants the resort facilities (spa, water sports, restaurants) while the angler fishes. Cabin on a fishing liveaboard yacht with all meals, fishing from the tender, and no land transfers between fishing days. The yacht is your accommodation and your departure point for every fishing day. Suits anglers who do not want to lose any water time to land logistics and who are travelling specifically to fish. The specialist gear line is the one to watch most closely. Standard popping and jigging tackle is on every boat in our fleet, but committed anglers usually want to bring their own preferred rod-and-reel setup (PE 6 to 8 for popping, slow-pitch jigging rods with 150 to 300 g jigs) and their own preferred lures. Tell us at the quote stage if you are travelling with tackle and we will confirm the boat will accommodate it.

Trip length matters more than most travellers expect. Two productive fishing days and three productive fishing days are not just one extra day apart; they fish completely differently, because the captain has time to push different techniques and recover from weather. Our process is plain. We do not run a listing site and we do not show you a grid of pre-built packages to pick from. The sequence is the same for every 5-night fishing trip we book.
Step 1: you tell us what you want. Dates, group size, target species, accommodation tier preference (or budget if you would rather we suggest a tier), atoll preference if you have one. The trip builder collects this in a few minutes; WhatsApp works the same way if you prefer to type it out.
Step 2: we match accommodation and a vessel. We hold a catalogue of vetted guesthouses, resorts, liveaboards and fishing vessels across the main atolls. We pick the combination that fits your group, your fishing style and your travel month. If the resort or guesthouse you want is in mind, we work with that; if not, we propose two or three options.
Step 3: you get a fixed quote with the day-by-day plan. The quote breaks out accommodation, the fishing days, fuel and gear, transfers, meals, domestic flights if needed, and all taxes and fees. The day-by-day plan goes alongside so you can see what you are booking. If you want to adjust the configuration (a different boat, a different atoll, an extra fishing day), we re-quote.
Step 4: you book. Deposit secures the accommodation and the boat. The balance is due before the trip; payment options and currencies are listed on the quote.
Step 5: on the day. You arrive in Malé and our team meets you at the airport or coordinates the speedboat transfer. Our Malé-based planner is on WhatsApp throughout your trip if anything needs adjusting. Photos and the catch report go in your confirmation file at the end.
Around four in ten of our 5-night fishing bookings include a non-fishing partner. The Maldives works well for this because the fishing departure points are also tourism islands, and the non-fishing partner has things to do during the fishing day: snorkelling on the house reef, the spa, sandbank trips, dolphin cruises in the late afternoon, and quiet beach time. When we plan a couples trip we factor in the non-fishing partner from the start rather than treating them as an afterthought.
The accommodation tier choice often shifts when a non-fishing partner is along: Tier 4 resort or Tier 2 mid-tier guesthouse with a pool and proper restaurant tends to land better than Tier 1 budget guesthouse where the angler is at sea ten hours a day. We also book a half-day non-fishing excursion on one of the rest days, typically a sandbank picnic or a snorkelling trip, so the partner has a memorable day of their own. Budget guesthouse packages start around USD 1,400, mid-tier guesthouse packages sit at USD 2,000 to 2,800, southern atoll premium packages run USD 2,800 to 4,000, and liveaboards span USD 2,500 to 4,500. All ranges are exclusive of the Maldives Tourism Goods and Services Tax of 17% and the applicable Green Tax, which we break out on every quote.

The northeast monsoon from November to April brings calmer seas, better visibility and the strongest offshore fishing for sailfish, marlin, wahoo and yellowfin tuna; this is the most-booked window. The southwest monsoon from May to October produces excellent GT popping conditions on the western reef faces with more wind and rain. Reef fishing and night fishing run productively year-round. The 5-night format with its one buffer day works in either monsoon.
Edible reef species and yellowfin tuna or wahoo can be filleted, vacuum-sealed and packed for travel home in a checked styrofoam cooler, subject to airline checked-baggage allowances and your destination country import rules. We arrange the cleaning, filleting and packing on request. Catch-and-release species (giant trevally, dogtooth tuna, marlin, sailfish) are not taken home. Confirm your destination country import rules before booking; some countries restrict fish imports.
Most components are bundled into one quote: accommodation, fishing days, transfers, breakfast, dinner and lunch on the boat. Alcohol is not available on local-island guesthouses (the Maldives prohibits alcohol on inhabited islands outside licensed resorts), and is plan-dependent at resorts and licensed liveaboards. Specialist popping and jigging lures, tips for the crew, and the Maldives Tourism Goods and Services Tax of 17% plus applicable Green Tax sit outside the standard package and are quoted separately.
For central atolls (North Malé, South Malé, Ari) the transfer is by speedboat directly from Velana International Airport jetty, typically 45 to 90 minutes. For southern atolls (Laamu, Huvadhoo, Addu) the transfer is by domestic flight from Malé to the regional airport (Kadhdhoo, Kooddoo or Gan) followed by a short speedboat. All transfers are included in our 5-night packages and coordinated to your international flight times.
