01The Fari Islands
Most Maldives resorts are one island, one hotel. The Fari Islands work differently. Four islands on the northern rim of North Malé Atoll were planned together: luxury resorts on three and staff housing on the fourth. Patina has the busiest of them, because Fari Marina Village sits on its shores.
The village is the shared heart of the archipelago: the Fari Beach Club, an art gallery with artists in residence, small boutiques, restaurants and a marina with 20 berths for yachts up to 80 feet. Guests from The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands come over by dhoni, and Patina guests can use facilities on the neighbouring islands too. A Capella resort has also been announced for the group.
So here is the honest trade-off. You get far more to do than on a typical private island, and it is only 45 minutes from the airport. In return, Patina never feels like a castaway hideaway. For that, look at our private island resorts.

05Art and wellbeing
Art is the reason many people choose Patina. The centrepiece is Amarta, a Skyspace by James Turrell: a chamber open to the sky where you sit and watch the colour shift at sunrise and sunset. Around the island are works chosen by The Artling, a permanent gallery and an artist in residence, and Marcio Kogan's buildings sit low and quiet among the trees.
Flow is the wellbeing side. It has a watsu pool for floating therapy, a hammam, contrast bathing with hot and cold plunges, a Pilates reformer, yoga, sound healing and sleep therapy, plus visiting specialists such as a posture expert. Treatments use OSEA seaweed products.

Patina sits in the Fari Islands, a small group of islands on the northern edge of North Malé Atoll, about 45 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport. It shares the archipelago with The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, and hosts Fari Marina Village, the social hub for all the Fari Islands resorts.
The 2026 fact sheet lists 90 one, two and three-bedroom beach and water villas, every one with a private pool, plus 20 Fari Studios on the edge of the marina. All of it was designed by Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan and Studio MK27.
The Beach Collection joins the three-bedroom Beach House with six one-bedroom beach villas on a private stretch of west-facing beach. Together that is seven pools, linked gardens and around 3,240 sq m, built for big families, milestone birthdays and groups of friends who want their own corner of the island.
Very. Footprints, the children's activity centre, runs a Fab Lab where kids turn ocean plastic into 3D-printed models, a culinary studio, freediving lessons and shark spotting. Each child gets a dive lesson per stay, and two-bedroom villas and the Beach House give families real space.
Amarta, the Skyspace at Patina, is an installation by American artist James Turrell: a chamber with an opening to the sky, designed for watching light change at sunrise and sunset. It is one of the best-known works of art in the Maldives, and guests can book a session there.
Patina guests have unlimited use of the Fari Beach Club and Footprints, plus facilities at the adjacent Fari Islands resorts, with scheduled dhoni transfers between the islands. Some venues need a booking, so we check what you would like to try when we plan your stay.

A One-Bedroom Sunset Water Pool Villa is our usual pick: 170 sq m over the lagoon with a private pool facing the sunset. If you prefer sand underfoot, the One-Bedroom Sunset Beach Pool Villa has a bigger garden plot of 240 sq m on the quieter west side.
