Luxury Maldives Β· Updated October 2026 Β· By Abdulla Maseeh

Luxury Family Resorts in the Maldives

The best luxury family resorts in the Maldives are Soneva Fushi, Cheval Blanc Randheli, One&Only Reethi Rah, JOALI, The Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands and Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru. Choose by your children’s ages first: most kids clubs take children alone from four, only a handful run a real teen club, and with a toddler the transfer and the villa matter more than the club.

The 12 best luxury family resorts in the Maldives

Each resort has an age strip: Club means a programme for that age, With help means with a parent, a babysitter or general activities, and None means nothing dedicated.

The Den is the largest children’s club in the Maldives at 1,365 sq m, and it feels more like a small village than a play room. There are two shallow pools, an eight-metre pirate ship, piano keys built into the floor, a Lego room with more than 8,000 pieces, a cinema and a kitchen for cooking classes, and the whole place is screen-free. Teenagers get their own lounge and a weekly programme of stargazing, beach volleyball and a junior MasterChef, and Soneva Fushi’s villas, many hidden in jungle on the beach, run from one to nine bedrooms.

Le Carrousel takes children from three, with a family room, a kids room and an outdoor waterpark of two slides, a two-depth pool and a splash pad by the beach. What sets Cheval Blanc apart is Le Paddock, a proper teenage lounge with virtual reality headsets, drawing walls and the only surf simulator in the Maldives, right next to the water sports centre. Evening sessions from 19:30 let parents have dinner alone, and the two-bedroom villas keep the whole family together.

Reethi Rah is one of the largest resort islands in the country, which is exactly why families like it: there is room for everyone. KidsOnly has its own clubhouse and pool, with art, sand art, boduberu drumming and cookery for over-fours, and One Tribe gives teenagers a beach clubhouse, water sports, bonfires and a sandbank survival trip. Babysitting is available for babies and toddlers, and the boat from MalΓ© means no waiting for a seaplane.

Ritz Kids is one of the best-designed clubs in the Maldives: an indoor and outdoor space with napping pods, a video game and movie room and its own pool with slides and water jets. The programme for ages 4 to 12 is built around land, water, culture and the environment, and the resident naturalists run complimentary sessions with microscopes, reef walks and a virtual reality ocean dive. The two-bedroom beach and water villas sleep four adults and two children, and the 1,500 sq m Estate has separate quarters for a nanny.

Landaa is the family resort for children who love the sea. The Kuda Velaa Club runs for ages 4 to 12, and teenagers can join the scientist-led Trainee Marine Biologist programme at the Marine Discovery Centre, identifying manta rays and helping with coral regeneration. Bubblemaker lagoon dives start at eight, Baa Atoll’s Hanifaru Bay is a boat ride away in manta season, and the three-bedroom Landaa Estate has two pools and its own 80-metre beach.

Choosing by age

Match the resort to your children’s ages

A resort that is perfect for a six-year-old can bore a fifteen-year-old in two days. Here is what matters at each age, and what to ask.

Under 4

Babies and toddlers

Most Maldives kids clubs take children on their own from about four, so with a baby or toddler you are really choosing babysitting, a good villa and short distances. Niyama is the exception: its Explorers Kids Club takes children from one. Elsewhere, under-fours can join the club with a parent or a paid babysitter.

  • Ask for a cot, a bed guard and a pool fence or cover before you arrive.
  • Choose a beach villa, not a water villa: no open water off the deck.
  • Check the babysitting rate and how far ahead you must book it.
  • A speedboat resort near MalΓ© saves a seaplane wait with a tired toddler.

The kids club years

Children 4 to 12

This is the age every luxury kids club is built for. The difference between a good club and a great one is what happens outside the play room: cooking with the chefs, planting coral, snorkelling with a marine biologist, a proper pool with slides. Most luxury resorts include the club in your stay, with some activities charged.

  • Ask for the weekly activity schedule, not just the club photos.
  • Check the club hours and whether evening sessions run.
  • Bubblemaker scuba lessons start at age eight in the lagoon.
  • Find out if lunch is served at the club or you collect them.

13 to 17

Teenagers

Teenagers are the hardest age to please in the Maldives, and few resorts have a real teen club. Cheval Blanc (Le Paddock), One&Only Reethi Rah (One Tribe), The St. Regis Vommuli (The Vommuli Society) and Four Seasons Landaa (Trainee Marine Biologist) are the ones that do it properly. Otherwise, pick a resort with plenty to do: surfing, diving, tennis, padel and water sports.

  • PADI Open Water courses start from age ten at most dive centres.
  • Niyama has its own surf break; Ritz-Carlton Fari runs seasonal surf coaching.
  • A two-bedroom villa gives teenagers a room and a door of their own.
  • Wi-Fi is fast at most luxury resorts, which helps more than you think.

Where you sleep

Choosing a family villa

The villa matters more with children than without. You will spend the hottest part of the day there, nap times happen there, and everyone needs a bit of space by day four. Here are the four ways families usually stay, from the simplest to the most generous.

One-bedroom villa with extra bed

Two adults and one or two young children

Fine for babies and under-sixes. Most luxury villas take two adults and two children under 12 using a sofa bed or extra bed, but space gets tight fast.

Two villas side by side

Families with older children

Two one-bedroom villas next to each other give everyone privacy and two bathrooms. Ask the resort to guarantee they are adjacent; few have true connecting villas.

Two-bedroom villa

Four adults and two children

The sweet spot for most families. At Ritz-Carlton Fari the Two Bedroom Beach Pool Villa is 400 sq m; at St. Regis the Family Villa is 334 sq m; at JOALI the Family Beach Villa has two pools.

Three-bedroom or larger residence

Grandparents, friends or two families

One house, a shared pool and often a kitchen and a host. Amilla, Velaa, Ritz-Carlton Fari and Soneva Fushi have some of the best. See our guide to multi-bedroom villas.

For the biggest options see 2, 3 and 4-bedroom villas in the Maldives, and for sand-side villas see Maldives beach villas.

Before you book

Six things to plan for with children

Transfers

Seaplanes fly only in daylight, so if you land in the evening you may need a night near the airport before the flight out. Speedboat and yacht resorts near MalΓ©, such as Reethi Rah, Ritz-Carlton Fari, Patina and Waldorf Astoria, can transfer you on arrival. Seaplane luggage limits are also stricter than on international flights.

Water villas and children

Many resorts set age rules for overwater villas or ask parents of under-12s to sign a waiver, as Ritz-Carlton Fari does. For children under about eight, a beach villa is usually safer and easier. If your children are confident swimmers, see our family overwater villas guide.

When to go

Christmas, New Year, February half-term and Easter are the busiest family weeks, with minimum stays and the earliest sell-outs, so book these six to nine months ahead. July and August fall in the south-west monsoon: more wind and showers, but quieter resorts and summer programmes at several kids clubs.

Meal plans

Children eat a lot and often, and luxury resort menus are priced accordingly. Ask whether the resort offers children’s meal plans or kids-eat-free deals for your dates. For a simpler set-up, see our all-inclusive family holidays guide.

Health and safety

Most luxury resorts have a doctor or nurse on call, but hospitals are in MalΓ© and a few regional centres, so travel insurance with medical evacuation is essential. Bring reef-safe sun cream and rash vests: the equatorial sun is strong even on cloudy days.

How long to stay

With a long-haul flight and a transfer at each end, seven nights is the least we recommend with children, and ten to fourteen is better. Splitting a stay between two resorts works well with older children who get bored easily.

Worth knowing

Luxury resorts that are better without children

A few luxury resorts set age limits or are clearly built for couples. They are wonderful, just not for a family holiday. If you see one of these on a booking site with a family rate, check the age policy before you pay. For couples, our Maldives honeymoon guide covers them.

  • MilaidhooTakes children from eight only, and is built around couples.
  • Conrad Rangali IslandFamily-friendly, but its Rangali island is adults-only.
  • Kudadoo Private IslandA small all-inclusive island aimed mainly at couples; check the age policy.
  • Huvafen FushiAn adult-oriented resort near MalΓ©; check the age policy before booking.

Questions

Luxury family resorts in the Maldives: your questions answered

What is the best luxury family resort in the Maldives?

There is no single best. Soneva Fushi has the biggest kids club, Cheval Blanc Randheli the best teen lounge, Niyama takes children from age one, Amilla has the best large residences and Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi has the shortest transfer. Choose by your children’s ages first, then by transfer time.

Which Maldives resorts have the best kids clubs?

Soneva Fushi (The Den, 1,365 sq m), Ritz-Carlton Fari (Ritz Kids), Cheval Blanc Randheli (Le Carrousel and its waterpark), JOALI Maldives (Muramas), One&Only Reethi Rah (KidsOnly), Velaa (Lha Velaa) and Niyama (Explorers) are the strongest at the luxury end.

Are luxury kids clubs in the Maldives free?

At most luxury resorts the kids club itself is included, while some activities, private sessions and babysitting are charged. The Stars Club at Waldorf Astoria, for example, is free for ages 4 to 11. We confirm what is included for your dates.

What age can children go to kids clubs in the Maldives?

Usually from four on their own, and younger with a parent or babysitter. Cheval Blanc takes children from three and Niyama from one. Clubs typically run to age 11 or 12, and only a few resorts have a separate teen club.

Which Maldives resorts are good for teenagers?

Cheval Blanc Randheli (Le Paddock), One&Only Reethi Rah (One Tribe), The St. Regis Vommuli (The Vommuli Society) and Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru (Trainee Marine Biologist) have proper teen programmes. Niyama, with its own surf break, is great for active teens.

Can children stay in overwater villas in the Maldives?

Often yes, but rules vary. Some resorts set a minimum age and others ask parents of under-12s to sign a waiver. For young children a beach villa is usually easier and safer.

Is the Maldives good for toddlers?

Yes, if you choose well. Pick a beach villa, a resort near MalΓ© reached by speedboat or a seaplane resort with an easy arrival time, and one with good babysitting. Niyama’s kids club takes children from age one.

Which luxury Maldives resorts are closest to the airport for families?

Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi is about 30 minutes by yacht, and One&Only Reethi Rah, The Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands and Patina are around 45 minutes by boat. They are good choices with young children or late arrivals.

How much does a luxury family holiday in the Maldives cost?

It depends on the resort, villa, season, meal plan and children’s ages, and rates change daily, so we do not publish live rates. Send us your dates and ages and we will quote two or three resorts with transfers and meals included.

More family and luxury guides

Tell us about your children and we will find the resort
