A Gulfstream G700 long-range private jet flying above golden clouds

Private Jet to the Maldives

You can fly to the Maldives by private jet, landing at Velana International Airport next to MalΓ© or at Maafaru in Noonu Atoll, now the busiest private jet airport in peak season. It is about four hours from Dubai and ten hours non-stop from London in a long-range jet. From the aircraft you go straight to a private seaplane or yacht, so the flight, the permits and the island transfer are planned together.

Departures

Private jet flight times to the Maldives

The Maldives sits in the Indian Ocean south-west of India, which puts it within a short hop of India and Sri Lanka, a mid-length flight from the Gulf and South-East Asia, and a long-haul flight from Europe. The distance decides the size of jet you need for a non-stop flight.

From London, Paris or Geneva only a long-range jet flies non-stop; otherwise plan a fuel stop in the Gulf. From the Gulf, a super-midsize jet is comfortable, and many guests fly larger jets for the cabin space.

Rule of thumb

  • Under 4 hoursAny mid-size jet works.
  • 4 to 6 hoursSuper-midsize or larger, for a stand-up cabin.
  • Over 7 hoursLong-range only, with a bed for overnight flights.

Where to land

Maldives airports for private jets

Four international airports take private jets. Which one you use depends on your resort and, in peak season, on where there is room to park.

Airport details from Maldives Airports Company, the airport operators and news reports (2025 and 2026). Your handler confirms slots, parking and customs for each flight.

Maafaru’s rise is the big change of recent years. In 2025 it handled 804 private jet movements, up 38 per cent on 2024, after its runway was extended and its apron doubled. For guests heading to Noonu, Raa and Baa it can save the seaplane flight from MalΓ© altogether, or replace it with a short hop.

Velana remains the airport for most resorts and the one with the fullest VIP facilities. When its apron is full over Christmas and New Year, jets drop their passengers and reposition to another airport, then return for the departure.

The aircraft

Which private jet do you need for the Maldives?

Six to eight seats

Light and mid-size jets

Good for India, Sri Lanka and, for some aircraft, the Gulf. Not practical from Europe without several stops.

Eight to twelve seats

Super-midsize jets

Comfortable non-stop from the Gulf and much of South and South-East Asia. A stand-up cabin and a proper galley.

Twelve to nineteen seats

Large and long-range jets

Non-stop from most of Europe, with a bedroom, a shower on some models and space for a family to sleep. Examples include the Gulfstream G700, Bombardier Global 7500 and 8000, and Dassault Falcon 10X.

Large groups

VIP airliners

Converted airliners for big families, wedding parties and private island buyouts. Maafaru can take wide-bodies flying direct from the Gulf and southern Europe.

Planning

How a private jet trip to the Maldives comes together

  1. Book the resort and the aircraft together

Your arrival time decides the transfer: seaplanes fly in daylight only, so we time the flight to land with enough margin for the last seaplane, or choose a yacht resort.

  2. Landing and parking permits

Your operator applies through a local handler. Allow at least a week outside the peak, and a month or more from November to March, when parking at MalΓ© is in demand.

  3. Parking and repositioning

In peak season many jets drop passengers at MalΓ© and reposition to another airport, or fly on to Maafaru, which has more apron space for the northern atolls.

  4. Arrival and customs

VIP handling meets you at the aircraft and clears immigration and customs privately. Every nationality gets a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival.

  5. The connection to the island

Straight from the aircraft to a private seaplane or yacht, with luggage transferred for you. See our guide to VIP and private transfers.

  6. Departure

Your handler files the departure slot and fuel in advance. Departure tax for private jets is charged per passenger and is the highest band, about ten times the economy rate.

A private jet gets you to the Maldives; a seaplane or boat gets you to the island. The best arrivals treat them as one journey. A VIP host meets the aircraft, immigration and customs are cleared privately, and your luggage goes straight to the seaplane or yacht while you wait in a lounge, often for less than half an hour.

The one constraint is daylight. Seaplanes fly from roughly sunrise to late afternoon, so if your jet lands in the evening you either choose a resort reachable by yacht, such as Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi or The Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands, or spend the first night near the airport. Our VIP and private transfers guide covers every option.

  • Ask for a private seaplane rather than a shared flight.
  • Tell us about security staff, nannies or extra luggage early.
  • Use the same handler for arrival and departure.

When to go

Peak season for private jets

Private jet traffic peaks from late December to mid-January, with a second busy spell in February. In the 2025 to 2026 season jets began arriving at Maafaru on 20 December, and more than 25 were expected on the apron on a single weekend. Permits, parking, private seaplanes and the best villas all run short at the same time.

  • Confirm the resort, villa and transfers before you finalise the flight.
  • Expect minimum stays and compulsory gala dinners at Christmas and New Year.
  • The dry season, December to April, has the calmest seas and clearest skies.
  • May to October is quieter, with easier parking and better resort offers.

Questions

Private jet to the Maldives: your questions answered

Can you fly a private jet to the Maldives?

Yes. Private jets land at Velana International Airport next to MalΓ©, and increasingly at Maafaru International Airport in Noonu Atoll, close to the northern luxury resorts. From the aircraft you transfer to your resort by seaplane or yacht.

Which airport do private jets use in the Maldives?

Velana International Airport (MLE) is the main gateway for every resort. Maafaru (NMF) in Noonu Atoll has become the busiest private jet airport in peak season, with room for about 30 jets. Gan in the south is used for parking and southern resorts, and Hanimaadhoo opened in the far north in November 2025.

How long is a private jet flight to the Maldives?

About four hours from Dubai or Doha, around two and a half hours from Mumbai, four hours from Singapore and about ten hours non-stop from London in a long-range jet. Times depend on the aircraft and winds.

Can a private jet fly non-stop from Europe to the Maldives?

Only a long-range jet, such as a Gulfstream G700 or Bombardier Global 7500 or 8000. Smaller jets need a fuel stop, usually in the Gulf.

Can a private jet land at my resort?

No. Resort islands have no runways. You land at an airport and finish by seaplane, yacht or speedboat. Nilaa Coral Island runs its own jet from MalΓ© to a nearby domestic airport.

How far in advance should I arrange a private jet to the Maldives?

At least a week outside the peak for permits, and a month or more for Christmas, New Year and February, when parking is in demand. Book the resort and transfers at the same time.

Do I need a visa if I arrive by private jet?

Every nationality receives a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival, as on a scheduled flight. You need a confirmed resort booking and a passport valid for at least six months.

How much does it cost to fly a private jet to the Maldives?

It depends on the aircraft, the route, the dates and whether the jet waits or repositions, so we do not publish live rates. We arrange the resort, VIP handling and transfers, and work with your operator on the flight.
